Helen Munro (Bangor University) shares insights into the university’s comprehensive approach to training staff to prevent and respond to sexual violence. The session covers Bangor’s strategic initiatives to educate staff and student leaders on handling disclosures, understanding the impact of sexual violence, and creating trauma-informed responses. Helen discusses the evolution of Bangor’s training programmes, including collaborations with key partners, specialised courses for different roles, and strategies to overcome resource limitations. You'll gain practical examples and good practices for implementing sustainable, whole-university training approaches.
Helen Munro has over 17 years of experience in the higher education sector and is currently Bangor University's institutional lead for the prevention of, and response to sexual misconduct, violence and harassment. Helen has worked in student support and student opportunities roles at Bangor, and prior to joining the university in 2007, worked within the supported housing sector, primarily with young people who had experienced sexual or domestic violence. Helen is also a qualified teacher, using her skills to develop engaging training and learning opportunities for staff and students alike. Helen was awarded a Bangor University Teaching Fellowship in 2024 for her body of work in educating the university's students and staff in the prevention of sexual violence and all forms of harassment.
