This session draws upon best practice and research by The Brilliant Club to explore the vital role that schools and universities can play in preparing students for and supporting them in the school to university transition. Learn how collaboration with third sector organisations and universities can help to implement this support, focusing on The Brilliant Club’s programme Join the Dots, which brings schools and colleges together with universities who co-create networks of support for students during the transition to university. Drawing upon insights from Roadblocks or Roadmaps, a recent study by The Brilliant Club on the experience of less advantaged students on university campuses, this session aims to facilitate dialogue on how we might support students across the educational lifecycle, from school to university and beyond.
David Horner is the Head of University Partnerships at The Brilliant Club, a national charity dedicated to supporting underrepresented students to access to and succeed in higher education. With a background in education and widening participation, David has extensive experience in fostering collaborations between universities and schools to support students through key transitions in their educational journeys. In his current role, he works closely with partner universities to support them to meet their strategic priorities, including research and strategic advice on current and planned activities and co-delivering new access and success programmes.
