Workshop
Is the issue that students of different ethnicities and backgrounds aren’t engaging with your service? Or that your service isn’t engaging them? The University of Bristol has spent the last two years trying to answer this question and have worked with students to build a creative engagement model that works for both parties.
This workshop uses the University of Bristol’s Race Inclusion Advocate programme and Belonging Fund Initiative as a case study to demonstrate how Student Services can partner with students to improve their service and boost engagement. The Belonging Fund supports student-led, innovative ideas to enhance the sense of belonging of students from different ethnicities and backgrounds, while the Race Inclusion Advocates are students who work with services to upskill their staff and improve their service model. In the short term, this model meets the unique needs of students from specific communities. In the long term, it improves the overall accessibility of services.
The workshop includes a summary of the Belonging Fund and Race Inclusion Advocate projects and the successes and learnings so far, and aims to give you practical advice on how you can begin this work. Then you have an opportunity put it to the test in this interactive session.
