Presentation
This session discusses the data from two profiling questionnaires developed with autistic and non-autistic university students, support professionals at university disability services, and autistic and non-autistic academics at University of Portsmouth and University of Nottingham.
The first questionnaire, developed with autistic students, is to identify their support needs at university, including social, academic, advocacy and life skill areas. The second questionnaire is for non-autistic students to identify their learning needs by asking about how they interact with their neurodivergent peers in different campus-based scenarios.
The second half of the presentation, discusses the implications of these findings for higher education providers, disability support services, training of faculty staff and students, and the way support is provided by the government (for example, Disabled Students’ Allowances). This presentation aims to emphasise the role of everyone in changing the culture and discourse about support at universities.
