Project Retain is a project offering proactive support to targeted cohorts of students to measure the potential impacts upon retention and student experience at Wrexham University. This case study explores how this pastoral support model was developed, its impact and the challenges faced along the way.
Hannah has been at Wrexham University for six and a half years, and for the last two and a half years, she has been a Student Support Navigator within the Wellbeing Team. This role offers students an opportunity to have a “What Matters” conversation and to become informed of the support available to them, both within the University as well as externally to the area. Hannah has always been passionate about supporting students and her previous role at Wrexham was based within the Careers and Employability team as a Work Experience Project Officer.
Natasha has been a Student Support Navigator within the Wellbeing Team at Wrexham University since the inception of the role in 2020. The role initially came to fruition as it recognised the complexities of working with students and aimed to meet their individual needs, which is an ethos that has continued within the service to this day. Natasha has a background of supporting individuals in difficult circumstances, having worked in the criminal justice system for a number of years, and is therefore passionate about supporting people to achieve their personal and professional goals.
