The University of Edinburgh has introduced a new approach to Student Support moving from a Personal Tutor system to a holistic approach with an ecosystem of professional services, academics, teaching teams, specialist services and peer support.
Every student has a named Student Adviser, a trained colleague who helps the student to navigate their studies administratively and pastorally. They work directly with the student and in partnership with professional services such as our Student Wellbeing Service, Residence Life, Chaplaincy, Student Counselling, Disability and Learning Support Service, Student Immigration and more. They also have a named Academic Cohort Lead, who is responsible for academic transition and skills building. They help the student to create their academic identity as individuals and within their communities.
The model fully rolled out across the university in September 2023 with colleagues working within the holistic model, developing robust communities of practice to provide equity of support to our student community. This session gives an overview of the implementation project, considers how the model is becoming embedded across the institution, and the approach to resolving challenges in a way that provides an equitable student experience.
