Examples of practice in tackling harassment and sexual misconduct
We’re looking to create a resource for members about how higher education providers from all nations across our membership are tackling harassment and sexual misconduct.
We’re hoping this can help members at English providers see how other providers are approaching the Office for Students’ E6 condition of registration, and offer a safe space for members to share practice. We want all our members, no matter your institution size or location across the UK, to feel supported in implementing the requirements and tackling harassment and sexual misconduct generally.
Please submit your examples of practice by midnight on Friday 28 February 2025.
What type of example are you looking to include?
We’re looking for examples that demonstrate how you're tackling harassment and sexual misconduct at your organisation.
We’re particularly interested in examples of practice that cover the following areas:
- A single comprehensive resource detailing your organisation's policies.
- Staff training.
- Student training.
- Relationships between students and staff.
- Reporting mechanisms and investigations.
- Support for students.
What formats can I use to submit my example(s)?
You can include information in whichever form you prefer to share. This may include, but isn’t limited to:
- A URL link to a case study or project on a university webpage.
- A PDF or Word document that details the policy / procedure / example of practice.
- Free text detailing your approach.
I work at an English provider. Can you confirm if my example meets the Office for Students’ E6 condition?
We can’t tell you whether your approach meets the Office for Students’ E6 condition.
We’re collating examples of how providers are tackling harassment and sexual misconduct to offer a shared resource for our membership. This may be particularly useful for English providers to see how others are responding to condition. It may be that there’s a common approach across providers which we can identify and highlight to the Office for Students to demonstrate how the condition is being interpreted by providers.
As a non-English provider, can I submit an example of practice?
Yes. We want this to be a resource that any provider can use to see what others in the sector are doing to tackle harassment and sexual misconduct.
How will my resource be used?
We’ll make these examples into part of a members-only resource so that other members can see what colleagues in the sector are doing to tackle harassment and sexual misconduct.
All examples uploaded as part of this members-only resource will include:
- The nation in which the provider is located.
- Provider size, according to our membership categories.
This is to help you contextualise your approach to tackling harassment and sexual misconduct. If you’re happy for your institution to be attributed to any examples you provide, you can specify this when you submit your example.
Outside our membership, we plan to share common themes across provider approaches with the wider sector. This data may be used in later publications, reports, presentations, web pages and other outputs. Any data shared externally will be anonymised to include only the nation and provider size according to our membership categories. We’ll remove any features that could identify a specific provider. For example:
- Information that could identify the region where the provider is located.
- Names of third parties and / or other providers you’ve worked with.
- Names of provider-specific campaigns.
If you’d like to discuss with us before submitting your example, contact us.
What happens if I remove my example from your website?
You can retract your resource from our website at any time by contacting us. You can retract your example from any of our anonymised outputs up until 9am on Monday 3 March 2025 when research analysis commences.
Any questions regarding how we process this data, please contact Emma.
