Vice Chancellor, SOAS University of London
Professor Adam Habib is the Vice Chancellor (formerly Director) of SOAS University of London. Prior to this, he was the Principal and Vice Chancellor of University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg from 2013 – 2020. He has served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research at the University of Johannesburg, and Professor of Development at the University of Natal.
A Professor of Political Science, Habib has over 30 years of academic, research and administration expertise, spanning five universities and multiple local and international institutions. His professional involvement in institutions has always been defined by three distinct engagements: the contest of ideas, their translation into actionable initiatives, and the building of institutions.
Habib is the former chair of Universities South Africa, a body that represents vice-chancellors and higher education in the country, and co-founder of the African Research Universities Alliance, a network of research universities from different countries and historical backgrounds with a common vision – to enhance research and graduate training in Africa.
Habib’s contributions resulted in his election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, in addition to serving as a fellow of both the African Academy of Science and the Academy of Science of South Africa. He has also served on the Council of the United Nations University.

Sally Ingram is an award-winning leader with more than 20 years’ experience, leading wellbeing services in higher education, statutory and charitable sectors.
Sally manages a very skilled team at Newcastle University that provides a high standard of health and wellbeing support, advising on matters relating to student wellbeing. Her teams include student financial support, disability support, welfare and counselling, student wellbeing advisors, faith and spirituality services and support for those who have experienced hate crime or sexual violence.
Sally is secretary to the Russell Group Mental Health Roundtable and co-chair of Newcastle University’ Alcohol and Drugs Working Group, where she’s helped to establish the institution’s Student Drug Policy: Reducing Harm. This is a cross-agency working group to educate, safeguard and support students on alcohol and substance use, a project she is passionate about as she wants to protect as many young people as possible.
Sally was awarded an MBE in 2023 for services to student mental health.

Jill pledges to collaborate with our members and partners to position the student experience and Student Services at the top of the agenda for university leaders, policy makers, funders, and regulators. She will continue to dedicate strong vision, great passion and energy, coupled with 15 years of experience in higher education, laterally as Director of Student Services and Dean of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. Jill truly love leading AMOSSHE and believe in the power of strong collaboration and an inclusive approach in all that she does.
