About Epigeum

United by a passion for online learning and cutting-edge technology, Epigeum was founded in 2005 as a spin-out company from Imperial College London. Acquired by Oxford University Press in 2015 and later by Sage Publishing in 2023, Epigeum is a leading provider of online training courses that support the needs of higher education institutions in 3 core areas: Research, Support & Wellbeing and Studying.

Each interactive, online course is developed through a unique process of global collaboration between world-class subject experts, partner institutions, and in-house specialists. The course is then made available to higher education institutions on a subscription basis – making consistent, cost-effective training achievable for all.

Epigeum’s courses can be integrated into your existing online provision, or accessed via our dedicated online platform. However you choose to deliver each programme, we will provide onboarding and technical support every step of the way. Born digital, each programme delivers active learning experiences that are rich, coherent, and memorable – advancing the careers of your academic and professional staff, students, and researchers.

Pressure points

Pressure Points provides flexible, online support for undergraduate and postgraduate students struggling with the pressures of university life. The 2023 study by TASO (Centre for Transforming Access and Student Outcomes in Higher Education) and The Policy Institute showed that 1 in 6 undergraduates are reportedly experiencing mental health issues. Pressure Points has been designed to provide foundational support on low level wellbeing issues to all students from pre-arrival through to transitioning out of university. The programme looks at key topics that matter to students when navigating life at university, especially in the context of a world that can feel challenging.

  • Hear real student voices: our ‘Students say’ pods and poll activities reduce stigma and take a positive approach to help students understand that they are not alone in their experiences.
  • Give students the flexibility to dip in and out of the resources as required with the concise and easy-to-navigate modules.
  • Enable students to build self-awareness using a preventative, proactive approach.
  • Utilising a variety of media, including animations, opinion activities and interactive practice scenarios, engage learners and promote self-efficacy.

Training in support and wellbeing

Devised in collaboration with leading subject experts and practitioners, students, and higher education professionals, Epigeum’s support and wellbeing programmes help universities and colleges to build safe and supportive communities.

  • Upscale and integrate training into existing initiatives, to ensure a consistent response across all departments at your institution
  • Empower staff across a wide range of roles to navigate this sensitive and complex issue, by providing them with the skills to respond appropriately, empathetically, and confidently
  • Ensure staff are aware of both their responsibilities and their limitations as first responders and recognise where they may need assistance, with extensive national support links and the ability to signpost to potential sources of further support
  • Provide an engaging learning experience through a range of interactive activities, including practice scenarios and video interviews

Tackling harassment: promoting positive cultural change in higher education

Tackling Harassment consists of a complementary pair of interactive, online modules that will support universities in tackling harassment and hate. Taking a holistic approach, the programme’s modules, Being an active bystander and Responding to disclosures, combine evidence-based best practices with expert learning design to raise awareness, counteract barriers to reporting and intervention, and encourage positive social and cultural change throughout the whole university community.

  • Provide training for the whole university community with two complementary modules, for any students or university members who may witness a problematic situation, and for anyone who is likely to be a first responder including all student-facing staff and student leaders
  • Complement existing in-person initiatives and ensure you reach the whole university, through this accessible and engaging online training
  • Being an Active Bystander equips learners with the skills and knowledge to recognise problematic situations, along with safe strategies for positively intervening
  • Responding to disclosures will provide learners with the knowledge required to identify hate and harassment, and the skills and confidence to provide an effective first response
